NFL Star T.J. Watt Leaves Game After Another Preseason Injury
NFL Star T.J. Watt Leaves Game After Another Preseason Injury: The Steelers lost to the Lions during their preseason finale Sunday. Per reports, this was the end of the season for 29-year-old Watt and 26-year-old Johnson due to injuries sustained in the first half. T.J. Watt left late in the second quarter with an injury to his right knee while 26 year old Johnson suffered a shoulder injury in the first quarter.
Star pass rusher Cameron Watt became the latest player to have a significant injury on opening day, leaving the game after taking a low block from former Pro Bowl tight end TJ Hockenson during the very first play. Before heading off himself, Watt underwent an evaluation and was ruled out soon afterwards.
Following both Watt and Johnson’s surgery, the latest news seems to indicate that neither sustained any significant injuries. CBS reporter Evan Washburn provided an optimistic update from Steelers coach Mike Tomlin after halftime.
Antonio Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster may be back in this game, according to Tomlin: “There’s no long term concern at the moment for T.J. Watt or Diontae Johnson
On August 21, New York Giants Defensive End Kayvon Thodeauc suffered a sprained MCL in a preseason game after Cincinnati Bengals TE Thadius Moss cut him down with a low block. The years-long discourse has been an active part of the NFL’s low block policies, which have been prevalent and controversial recently.
Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt left Sunday’s preseason finale against the Lions after sustaining a knee injury on a low block. Watt was injured while chasing down Lions running back Ameer Abdullah late in the fourth quarter when he was hit low by fullback Tommy Bohanon. Watt dived to catch the ball but came up limping and was helped off the field with assistance from teammates before being carted to the locker room. The Steelers announced that Watt will have an MRI on Monday morning to determine the extent of his injury, which is concerning because it appears as though he might not be able to play in Week 1 against Cincinnati. With Jarvis Jones suspended for four games, and veteran Steve Miller recovering from offseason surgery, there are now only three linebackers on Pittsburgh’s roster who are eligible to start in Week 1: Bud Dupree, Ryan Shazier, and Watts.
