New Zealand sealed the series with a triumph over Scotland by 102 runs
New Zealand sealed the series with a triumph over Scotland by 102 runs: The New Zealand team posted their highest Twenty20 international total of 254 runs. They went on to hammer Scotland by 102 runs in Edinburgh. With this win, they completed a 2-0 series win on the 29th of July 2022.
Mark Chapman and Michael Bracewell enjoyed their career-best scores at this level. Mark Chapman scored 83 and Michael Bracewell scored 61. They contributed hugely to a total of 254-5.
Mark Chapman – Star of the match
Chapman’s 44-ball knock consisted of seven sixes. Bracewell faced 25 deliveries for his runs.
Mark Chapman last participated in a T20I in the year 2021. On being presented with an opportunity to perform, he made the most of it.
Starting his game at No. 3, Chapman got to 23 runs off 15 balls during the powerplay overs. He then took off with Daryl Mitchell in the middle overs. He scored 50 runs off 27 balls. Chapman then knocked 33 runs off his final 17 deliveries. Thanks to this, he reached a career-best 83 off just 44 balls. The New Zealand team stood at 175/4. The team was looking for a total of roughly 230 runs when Chapman got out in the 16th over.
The 28-year-old Chapman’s innings proved to be creditable. It was his first professional knock since mid-April 2022.
“It is just the nature of international cricket,” Chapman stated. “It took a bit to get going, but once you get one out of the middle of the bat, things come back pretty quickly.”
“We have been talking about taking the game on and being really positive in the way we play. It came off today, and the boys are pretty happy.”
Michael Bracewell-Jimmy Neesham Partnership
Michael Bracewell and Jimmy Neesham had their plans to work upon. Bracewell scored 26 runs from Alasdair Evans’ over. He scored 50 runs in 22 balls, his first in T20Is. On the other hand, Neesham knocked a six off the third ball he faced.
New Zealand stood at a total score of 254 runs. This is their highest-ever T20I total. They scored 15 runs in the final over. In terms of partnerships lasting more than 25 balls, the Neesham-Bracewell run-stand of 79 runs off 28 balls is the fifth-fastest in T20I history.
Spinners troubled Scotland
Ish Sodhi and Mitchell Santner are a spin-duo from the New Zealand team. They cost Scotland six wickets loss in the opening T20I. The hosts were restrained by Santner, Sodhi, and Bracewell. Amidst this commotion, Michael Rippon managed to take away a few wickets.
Prior to them, Neesham managed to take two wickets in the fourth over. Scotland scored 33 runs losing 3 wickets.
Bracewell broke the opening partnership stand in the second over. In the Powerplay, a miscommunication between the batsmen led to a run-out and another wicket.
Chris Greaves scored 37 runs off 29 balls. But Scotland’s innings never gained enough pace to stand against New Zealand’s total score.
Chris Greaves stood at 37 runs. New Zealand all-rounder James Neesham took two wickets in one over. The spinner Michael Rippon stood with 2-37.
