Nepal Captain Sandeep Lamichhane a used of rape charges says I’m innocent : On 7 September, news broke out that Sandeep Lamichhane, captain of the Nepali Cricket team accused of raping a minor. Nepal police have already initiated a probe against the lawyer after a complaint by the minor girl.
Kathmandu District Court issued an arrest warrant on Thursday. However, Police say they are investigating and collecting the evidence including CCTV footage.
Meanwhile, the Cricket Association of Nepal has suspended Lamichhane from the team till the investigation is labeled against him. Lamichhane is currently part of the Caribbean premier league.
Consequently, The Nepali Cricket Association has suspended his leadership position.
Lamichhane gave a statement to the media
In a statement to the media, Sandeep Lamichhane wrote on his social media handles ” I’m innocent and have complete faith in the respectable laws of my country. I have decided to take a leave from the Caribbean premier league. I will go back to my country within a few days. I’m ready to face these baseless accusations. May justice be serve to the innocent and the right investigation should be done.”
Lamichhane is currently part of Jamaica Tallawahs in CPL. He is the poster boy of Nepal cricket, which gained ODI status in 2018.
The accusations against Captain is made by a 17-year-old teenager. Who claiming to be a fan of Sandeep Lamichhane? She claimed that the star leg spinner raped her twice in a hotel room.
As per her claim, she was a fan of Lamichhane and met him on the social media app Snapchat.
Later they began chatting on WhatsApp and became friends. According to the complaint, it was the cricketer who proposed the meeting.
The news is taking the Cricket fraternity and fans by shock. Fans are demanding a clear investigation if the news is true. Some insensitive fans are seen worrying about his career on Twitter.
Lamichhane has the most decorated career in Nepal Cricket. He is the first Nepali Cricketer to play IPL in 2018 when Delhi Daredevils brought him.
