NBA legend Dwight Howard will compete for the Taoyuan Leopards in Taiwan
I’m very happy. When I get in Taiwan, I can’t wait to begin performing “The Taoyuan Leopards, Howard’s new team, posted a video of him saying it on their Facebook page.
“I can’t wait to meet the people, enjoy the cuisine and company, win the title for Taoyuan city, and see the supporters.”
In his eight NBA All-Star appearances over the course of his 18 seasons, Howard also won a championship with the Los Angeles Lakers during the pandemic-affected 2019–2020 season.
His time with the Lakers in the 2021–2022 season saw him become a free agent.
For the Lakers last year, he scored 6.2 points and grabbed 5.9 rebounds a game.
In order to officially introduce Howard ahead of his debut the following weekend, the Taoyuan Leopards in northern Taiwan announced on Facebook that a press conference will be held on Saturday.
“We hope he can share his knowledge, concept, and talents with younger players on the squad and assist our team win the title this year,” the group stated.
The most watched professional leagues in Taiwan are for the two most popular sports, basketball and baseball.
The T1 league, the newest of the island’s three professional divisions, was founded last year and now has six teams, including the Leopards.
The contract the team made with Howard was not made explicit by the team.
Howard declared in a video on Instagram that he was “ready to enjoy life by playing the sport I love in front of a lot of people that love me.”
