The NBA communications team made the official announcement on Twitter
The NBA official communication team took their Twitter to announce. They tweeted saying
“The scheduling decision came out of the NBA family to focus on promoting the nonpartisan civic engagement. To encourage fans to make a plan and go to vote during midterm elections,”
The NBA officials said the NBA wants to build on what it did in 2020. In 2020 when the NBA did something similar, They turned More than two dozen arenas into voting centers for the 2020 election.
The Executive Director of the NBA’s Social Justice Coalition, James Cadogan in a conversation with Brewster says “It’s an unusual thing at NBA.” “We don’t usually change the Nba schedule for any external event.”
However, as far as voting on Election Day is concerned, It is unique and incredibly crucial to our Democracy. That’s part of our value proposition that we want to ensure people understand. We want them to know that voting is unlike anything else.”
He further said,” Move is a symbolic gesture by the NBA.”
“If we are talking about going out to register, voting and our making your voice heard in whatever way you think is most important. These are some symbols that I think most of the people can and will support.”
In the last few years, NBA players have taken active participation in civic engagement. In the 2020 presidential election, LeBron James was at the forefront of the “More Than a Vote” campaign.
