National Sports Day: Chief Miniter Dhami launches sports scholarship: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami launched the ambitious ‘Mukhyamantri Udaimaan Khiladi Unnayan Yojana (MUKUY). He launched this on the event of National Sports Day on the 29th of August 2022. The scheme is launched to encourage and upgrade the upcoming players in different sports in the State.
The program was organized at Police Lines, Dehradun. CM Dhami said that the State government had announced sports scholarships. He declared that the decision has been implemented. He emphasized that the BJP government delivers whatever it promises.
Dhami said that in the MUKUY scheme, a scholarship amounting to Rs 1500 per month would be given to upcoming players. This scholarship was for sportspersons of eight to 14 years of age. This scholarship will be provided to 3900 emerging players. The scholarship will include 1950 boys and an equal number of girls. The CM put his attention to the shortage of coaches in the State. He declared that eight sports coaches in every district would be appointed. He said that the remunerations of the coaches who will be appointed on the contract would be increased.
The CM also announced that a Chief Minister Sports Development Fund would be set up. This fund is for the promotion of sports in the State. He said that the State government would make an attempt to reintroduce the four percent reservation in government jobs to sports persons.
Dhami said that there could be no better than National Sports day to launch this scheme. According to him, the birthday of legendary Dhyan Chand is an auspicious day to launch the MUKUY. He said that everyone should understand that Dhyan Chand provided an identity to India internationally. He brought revolution when sports infrastructure in the country was for namesake only.
He said that the State government will be implementing the new Sports Policy. The Policy has the objective of providing support to the players. The policy will ensure that the State becomes a sporting power in the country. He said that the State government has approved a 100 percent increase in the cash prizes to the players who will win medals at national and international levels.
He felicitated the sportspersons with Rajya Khel Puraskar, Uttarakhand Dronacharya Puraskar, Dev Bhoomi Khel Ratna, and Himalayan Khel Ratna Puraskar. He said that the State government had made arrangements for out-of-turn promotions to the sports people in the government jobs. He claimed that the transparency in the selection of players will be increased. The talented players will be getting every opportunity. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a major initiative for promoting sports in the country. Dhami emphasized that the Khelo India scheme is a very good example of the approach of the PM. Dhami said that our sportspersons are acquiring a record number of medals in the Olympics, Commonwealth, and events. These wins increase the confidence of the countrymen.
Sports Minister Rekha Arya said that the MUKUY scheme promises the commitment of the State government. The scheme promises to promote sports in the State. She said that many national and state-level sports grounds are being constructed in the State. These grounds being prepared would provide an impetus to the environment of sports in Uttarakhand.
Dharampur MLA Vinod Chamoli, special principal secretary, sports Abhinav Kumar, additional chief secretary Radha Raturi, director sports G S Rawat and others were present at the program where the scheme was launched.
