National Sports Day celebrated across state of Arunachal: On Monday, the state commemorated National Sports Day to honor the anniversary of the birth of renowned hockey player Major Dhyan Chand.
As part of the celebration in Itanagar, the state government awarded deserving athletes financial incentives totaling Rs 30 lakhs.
During a ceremony at the DK Convention Hall in this city, awards were given to 55 athletes from a variety of sports for their excellent performances in different international, national, and regional level competitions, according to sports director Tadar Appa.
Sports Minister Mama Natung, Education Minister/President of the Arunachal Olympic Association Taba Tedir, SAA Chairman Byabeng Taj, SAA Vice Chairman Tana Sanjeev, AOA Secretary-General Bamang Tago, Sports & Youth Affairs Secretary Anirudh Singh, and others gave out the rewards.
Every year on National Sports Day, the state government awards cash incentives to deserving athletes.
“Khelega India to Khilega India” was the theme of this year’s NSD.
The department of sports and youth affairs was in charge of planning the event.
The district government, the State Sports Academy, the Changlang Football Association, and the Changlang Badminton Association all worked together to commemorate the NSD in Changlang.
More than a thousand boys and girls took part in the different sporting events held to commemorate the occasion.
The party included Sunny Singh and DSO Noah Mongku as well.
To commemorate the occasion, Tawang’s Deputy Commissioner KN Damo opened two basketball courts on Monday.
In front of students, police, and others, the DC also started a basketball game on the court close to the high altitude stadium.
“Despite being one of the most played sports worldwide, our youngsters are unable to advance owing to a lack of fields and other infrastructure. Basketball may be one of the sports that Tawang’s eager youngsters choose to play as a vocation, making the greatest use of their physical attributes.
The major events of the 7th Dorjee Khandu Memorial District Level Badminton Tournament are being conducted today in Lungla, he announced, “coinciding with the National Sports Day,” and he urged the young people to take inspiration from global champions like Heema Das.
Tenzin Jambey, the district’s sports officer, also spoke.
The GHSS Tawang and the Rangyul squad competed in the game. The Rangyul squad defeated the GHSS team by 20 points, scoring only 15 points in the process.
The DC awarded the contestants with wonderful gifts.
The Papum Pare district sports office held a Taekwondo match between the Nirjuli and Doimukh Taekwondo Clubs in Nirjuli to commemorate the occasion.
In both the Kyourgi and Poomsae Taekwondo competitions, Nirjuli won.
Kipa Bharat, the state’s head football coach, awarded the winners their trophies.
Major Dhyan Chand received flower tributes on this day in Chimpu from members of the National Center of Excellence (NCoE) of the Sports Authority of India at the Sangay Lhaden Sports Academy.
Gumjum Haider, the president of Hockey Arunachal, and Shiv Kumar Saini, the in-charge of NCOE Itanagar, among others, presented flower tributes.
Sports competitions involving the NCOE athletes and staff members were organized, including volleyball, mixed relay races, tug-of-war, etc.
The winners of the competitions received their awards from Haider.
To commemorate the day, sporting contests were held at the GHSS in neighboring Jonai (Assam) by the Rayang military station in the East Siang area.
The sports and youth affairs department organized a badminton tournament, a football game, a Taekwondo competition, and indigenous games at Tirap HQ Khonsa in conjunction with the district government, the badminton association, and the 6 Assam Rifles.
To commemorate the day, the district administration in Upper Siang HQ Yingkiong organized sporting events for people of all ages under the slogan “Say no to drugs and yes to sports.”
Boys’ and girls’ friendly football games were scheduled.
At Rono Hills’ Rajiv Gandhi University, the day was also observed. A football game between the 12 NDRF Doimukh and RGU was organized by the university’s physical education department.
