The National Games, known as the Olympics of India, will organize this year. The schedule of the National Games 2022 is in the month of September. The host for this term will be Gujarat. This multi-sport event will start on September 22 to will finish on October 10. After 7 years National Games are going to organize in the country. The last edition of the tournament was in Kerala in the year 2015.
The Secretary-General of the Indian Olympic Association Rajeev Mehta announced this in a social post on Friday. Rajeev Mehta wrote in the post- ‘I am happy to announce that Gujarat is going to host the National Games. I am grateful to the IOA for early accepting the proposal of the Gujarat government.
5 cities in the state will organize the full tournament
The five cities of the state (Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Surat, Bhavnagar, and Vadodara) will host the whole tournament. The opening and closing ceremony of the Games may take place at the world’s biggest cricket ground Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Earlier National Games were to be held in Goa. But the Goa government withdrew from organizing the Games in 2020 citing the COVID-19 pandemic. Then there was the meeting of getting it done in the month of December. Hence, the hosting of the Games snatched from Goa.
the tournament is 98 years old but has never been continuous
This will be the 36th season of the National Games. The tournament turns 98, but it’s never been that constant. The first edition of the National Games was held in Lahore (today’s Pakistan) in 1924. While Its larger form is the biggest reason behind not being continuous. The other reason is the infrastructure and budget needed to organize the tournament which is not available in every state of our country.
