Mr. Antonio Urso is the Newly Elected General Secretary of IWF. After completion of this round 2 of voting (online) to decide the candidate to represent the position of General Secretary, Mr. Antonio Urso of Italy emerged as the elected new IWF General Secretary.
Mr. Antonio competed with 127 valid votes cast, and it was a close race. Mr. Urso emerged the winner with a total of 64 votes, and Mr. Jose Quinones missed the position closely with 63 votes. As Mr. Urso followed the IWF Constitution, he received the max votes and so was declared the winner.
The IWF wholeheartedly congratulates Mr. Urso for winning the election and is quite sure that he will create a positive impact on the world of sport in this crucial period of its history. The IWF thanked both Mr. Quinones and Mr. Urso for showing their commitment to the sport of weightlifting with this close-run election that proved there is genuine interest in this specific sport.

His extensive years of experience combined with this passion for weightlifting will be a great asset for the IWF in the years ahead. Mr. Antonio Urso, the newly elected IWF General Secretary, said, “What an exciting day it has been. I cannot begin to express my thanks to the IWF family for their confidence. The voting of this election happened online. It got supervised by the Electoral Commission as well as by the Electoral Manager via the application of the LUMI Global system. With the completion of the voting process, the 2022 IWF Electoral Congress came to an end.
