The Board of Control for Cricket in India has finally declared Mohammed Shami to replace Jasprit Bhumrah in the T20I squad of team blues.
New Dehli: On Friday the BCCI named the second pacer Mohammed Shami as to replace the injured Jasprit Bhumrah in the Indian cricket team for the upcoming T20 World cup in Australia.
The other two backups are Shradul Thakur and Mohammed Siraj who will travel to Australia soon. The tournament dates were announced to start from 16 October to 13 November. Due to a strain-related injury, Bhumrah is to be ruled out of competitive cricket for a durable period in the T20i squad.
According to all India senior-selection committee has named Mohammed Shami and Shradul Thakur as Jaspreet Bhumrah’s replacements in Indian ICC Men’s T20i world cup squad. Shami is to be linked with the rest of the team in Brisbane ahead of the warm-up matches. BCCI secretary Jay Shan was quoted in a press release.
Shami played in the last T20 international during the last edition of the ICC T20I world cup in the UAE. He was supposed to play in the sixth T20I at home against Australia and South Africa but tested corona positive and had to remain in isolation. On return, he has to approve to be fit and fine before NCA confirms his journey to Australia.
Shami has played 17 T20Is and has taken a total wicket of 18. Sanjay Bangar expressed his words with the statement “Bowling attack without Jasprit Bhumrah will make teams reconsider batting approach against India”.
Team India is to suffer one more setback as all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is suffering from a leg injury and also has been ruled out of the team India T20I squad.
The man in blue has already played two warm-up matches in Perth against Western Australia XI and is scheduled to play Australia and New Zealand before their Super 12 match against Pakistan on October 23
