Indian cricket’s rising star Mohammed Shami was honored with the Arjuna Award by the President of India.
It was a very special and memorable moment for Team India when there was applause in Rashtrapati Bhavan for team member Shami.
Shami materialized as the greatest wicket-taker in the tournament, having taken a total of 24 wickets. His performance also earned him a place in the World Cup final, defeating all other bowlers in terms of wickets taken.
Celebrating this proud moment, BCCI shared a post on Twitter in which Shami is being honored with the award by the President.

The Arjuna Award is given to the best-performing athletes and is India’s second-highest sporting honor.
This award is given by the Government of India to the best-performing players in all sports this year. The Arjuna Award was first given in 1961.
Arjuna Award in 2023 has been given to the best sports players like Mohammed Shami in cricket, Mohammed Hussamuddin in boxing, R Vaishali in chess, and many more.
Mohammed Shami is a well-known Indian international cricketer who represents India at the international level.
He has played as a Right-arm fast bowler and Right-handed batsman for the India men’s national cricket team from 2013 to the present.
During the 2023 World Cup, Mohammed Shami sustained an ankle injury which caused him to miss two matches of the Test series. However, he was able to recover quickly from the injury and participate in the Test series.
