President Droupadi Murmu delivers the Arjuna Award to cricketer Mohammed Shami during the National Sports. And Adventure Awards 2023 on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.
Mohammed Shami, India’s great sprinter, received the Arjuna Award from President Droupadi Murmu at the Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi.
Shami earned the prize at the National Sports and Adventure Awards 2023. The right-arm fast bowler had a fantastic 2023 season. Including a record-breaking ODI World Cup in which he took the most wickets.
He took 24 wickets in the competition in only 7 games, average 10.71.
Shami was instrumental in India’s march to the final. Producing the greatest figures ever recorded by an Indian bowler on the night of the semifinals against New Zealand.
He concluded with 7/57 in 9.5 overs as India defeated the Kiwis by 70 runs to get to the final.
However, the hosts lost the summit clash against Australia. Causing huge heartbreak for fans who were hoping for a third World Cup win for Team India.
Especially given how well the team had performed throughout the tournament, which was played in their own backyard. With the final at the world’s largest cricket stadium, the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, which was packed with Indian fans.
