Mohammed Shami exclusion the big call in India’s T20 squad
Mohammed Shami exclusion the big call in India’s T20 squad: Mohammed Shami is notably absent from India’s 15-man T20 World Cup roster for the tournament that begins on October 16. Despite India’s struggles in the final overs of the most recent Asia Cup, the veteran fast bowler has been kept on standby.
Since last year’s T20 World Cup, Shami hasn’t been selected for the shorter format, but he will play in the home T20I series against Australia and South Africa. The selection panel, directed by Chetan Sharma, decided to stick with the status quo rather than consider the exciting proposals put out by the Australians.
Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, previous captain Virat Kohli, and Suryakumar Yadav are the four specialist batsmen on the team.
Players
Batting wicketkeepers include Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik, while seam bowling all-rounders Hardik Pandya and Harshal Patel complete the squad. Spin-all-rounders Deepak Hooda and Axar Patel were selected to replace the injured Ravindra Jadeja, while Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal provided further support.
In addition to the two veteran fast bowlers, Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, the youngster Arshdeep Singh, who bowled well enough in the death overs in the Asia Cup, made the trip to Australia.
Over the past year, India’s Twenty20 International squad has been defined by a commitment to innovation and rotation. However, the Asia Cup team was indicative of what would happen at the T20 World Cup. As a result, the selectors have decided on continuity despite the disaster in the desert, which resulted in elimination from the Super Four.
As difficult as it was to form the squad, it was far simpler to form the team. It would be more difficult for the team’s management to choose the starting XI. Which performer will precede Rohit? Kohli looked confident at the top of the order as he finally scored a century in the Asia Cup against Afghanistan.
In the IPL, he does it frequently, and the former captain has made significant contributions every time he has begun for India in the shortest format. His batting average of 57.14 when batting first is significantly higher than his overall batting average of 51.94 in Twenty20 Internationals.
Here’s the catch, though: KL Rahul is a seasoned opener who knows how to manage the tempo of his innings. Some current examples include: India scored 44-1 after six overs in their Asia Cup group league match against Hong Kong, with Rahul scoring 16 off 20 balls.
He got six runs off seven deliveries in the Super Four game against Sri Lanka. India’s recent struggles in multi-nation events can be attributed partly to their outmoded style of T20 cricket, especially compared to that of world champion Australia and enthusiastic England. Even if Rahul scores runs, his performance at the plate can sometimes be a factor in the team’s loss.
The selectors have given him some protection from being dropped by designating his vice-captain, and he will certainly open the innings with Kohli at No. 3.
After India’s final game at the Asia Cup, Rahul was asked if the ex-captain should keep opening the batting after Kohli scored a hundred. And Rahul shot back, “So, what do you want me to do; sit out?”
Playing safe
Pant’s creative stroke-play can take full advantage of field limits in the opening six overs. Still, the team management lost a golden opportunity to move him up the order amid all the experimentation. In the current lineup, Karthik will finish off innings while the lefty will bat fifth.
The choice to exclude Shami will either be fruitful or counterproductive. Despite his success in the UAE, Arshdeep is still just a youngster, and Kumar blew late leads against Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup. Batting experts in the “death overs” will pose more challenging issues at the T20 World Cup due to the larger audience. India could do without a player with Shami’s talent and expertise.
You have to improve your preparation if you really want to win. I feel there was room for improvement in the selection, particularly with the quick bowlers. These terms are familiar to you.
The spinner doesn’t gain anything from this. In all honesty, I was taken aback to see that you only brought four fast bowlers (including Hardik). You required that additional one; it puzzles me that someone like Mohammed Shami would be relaxing at home.
The fact that he didn’t make the team after that IPL is… After India was eliminated from the Asia Cup, former head coach Ravi Shastri criticized the team’s choices on Star Sports.
Legendary former Pakistan fast bowler Wasim Akram dittoed.
There will be a lot of pressure on India to perform well at this World Cup. They were eliminated in the group stage of the T20 World Cup, lost both Test and limited-overs series in South Africa, dropped a single Test in England and were beaten in the Asia Cup. A loss in Australia would be disastrous for Rohit and his army.
Before the T20 World Cup, India will host a series against Australia and South Africa in Twenty20 Internationals. The BCCI said that during the home series against Australia and South Africa, Hardik, Arshdeep, and Kumar would be reporting to the NCA for conditioning-related activities.
