Aakash Chopra has named Mohammad Shami’s incisive new-ball performance as one of the factors that contributed to the Gujarat Titan’s (GT) run to the IPL 2023 final.
With 28 kills, Shami led the competition in wickets taken and frequently provided the Titans with early leads.
In a video posted to his YouTube page, Chopra discussed some of the key players who helped the Titans’ successful run. He said in regard to Shami.
Shami aptitude. his skill as a player. With this squad, Mohammad Shami’s stature has significantly increased. There was no doubt when he was chosen that Shami excels in all formats, but T20s is a toss-up.
The former Indian opener was especially impressed by the Gujarat Titans pacer’s capacity to take advantage of the seamer-friendly circumstances present at the Narendra M. Nodi stadium in Ahmedabad while playing under the lights, saying:
He performed admirably last year and won the Purple Cap this year. The ball travels a lot under lights in Ahemdabad, and the way he bowled to win the Purple Cap is an example of it.
17 of Shami’s 28 wickets came in the powerplay overs. Along with winning the Purple Cap, the seasoned seamer bowled the most dot balls (193) during the competition.
Aakash Chopra described Mohammad Shami’s performance against the Delhi Capitals as “absolutely incredible.”
Aaksha Chopra elaborates on why she thinks Shami’s 4/11 against the Delhi Capitals was among the top spells of IPL 2023.
Two bowling strikes come to mind when asked to name the best strike of the year. One was Aakash Madhwal’s five-wicket haul against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), and the other was Mohammad Shami’s four wickets against the Delhi Capitals, who was just outstanding.
The renowned analyst finished by noting that the Bengal seamer did well for himself as a death bowler as well, saying:
Mohammad Shami excelled at that level of test bowling, not just once or twice, but numerous times. At the very last moment, he too arrived and bowled. The penultimate over was not too tough, even in the championship. He has been outstanding.
The final over Shami bowled against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) was stunning. When CSK needed 21 runs off the final few overs, he only let up eight runs. His efforts were futile, though, as Ravindra Jadeja led his team across the finish line with 10 runs off the final two deliveries of the final over.
