MLB’s Hottest and Coldest Teams
MLB’s Hottest and Coldest Teams. Two of the hottest teams in Major League Baseball are the Baltimore Orioles and Seattle Mariners.
Unfortunately for the Orioles, they had a bad start to their season in which they were 11 games under .500 by mid-June. Last year, the Orioles went 52-110 and there didn’t seem to be a change in that trend from this year.
Baltimore has had an eight-game winning streak that started on May 12th and is currently 43-44 overall. They won their first series against the Texas Rangers and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. In Tuesday’s game, they will hope to keep their strong play going as they take on the Chicago Cubs in Illinois.
Despite the Orioles’ team ERA of 2.83, they are expected to win against their division rival, the Chicago Cubs, who have been struggling and have significantly better odds at a win. Toronto is opening as a small favorite against Baltimore (1/2) at Bovada.
With three more games to go before the All-Star break, the Orioles find themselves just a game back of a playoff spot in the crowded American League wild-card standings.
The Seattle Mariners are currently leading the Orioles, but their performance over the past few weeks has been outstanding. Overall, the Mariners are in great shape and have seen a huge boost in their overall play since losing four of five to the Angels.
The Seattle Mariners have come off a four-game sweep of Toronto Blue Jays and are now heading out to Washington, D.C. on Tuesday night. The odds are even in this game: the M’s are -110 favorites and the Nats are -110 favorites. Chris Flexen is slated to start, who has tossed six shutout innings in San Diego all season long.
Series continues: The New York Mets have slowly been ceding the status of first place in the NL East to the Atlanta Braves over the last few months, but they put forth a strong effort in their first game of their series in Atlanta on Monday night.
The New York Mets pulled off a 4-1 win with Max Scherzer on the mound to tighten the razor thin race and pull away from Atlanta. The Mets are now 2.5 games up on the Braves, but Atlanta can get one back on Tuesday night with Spencer Strider on the mound against lefty Drew Peterson of the Mets.
The St. Louis Cardinals are split across the four-game series and have won two out of three games so far. They now will face the Los Angeles Dodgers, who have been winners of seven consecutive games.
The Los Angeles Dodgers are -145 favorites on Tuesday as the Dodgers have won 25-15 against the spread this season. The San Francisco Giants (+120) are 7-7 at home.
The Philadelphia Phillies will be without two more regulars, catcher J.T. Realmuto and third baseman Alec Bohm, after their vaccination status was ruled ineligible for travel to Canada. Starting pitcher Kyle Gibson did not make the trip to Toronto for the two game series either.
As of this writing, there is no posted line for the Phillies vs Milwaukee Brewers game. The Phillies are expected to go with a bullpen game on Tuesday.
