Indian women’s cricket team captain Mithali Raj has announced her retirement from all forms of international cricket. Milani has been one of the most respected female players not only in India but in world cricket. Mithali has made many such records as a batsman and captain.
Her records will be very challenging for future cricketers to break. If male cricketers are also included, then only Sachin Tendulkar is able to stand around him.
1. Longest International Career
Mithali played her first international match on 26 June 1999 against Ireland. That was an ODI match. He played the last international match against South Africa on 27 March 2022. That is, Milani’s international career lasted for 22 years, 274 days. This is a world record in women’s cricket.
2. First and only batsman to score 7000 runs in women’s ODI
Mithali Raj scored 7,805 runs in her ODI career. She is the first and only female batsman in the world to cross the 7,000-run mark in this format.
3. Highest Runs in Women’s International Cricket
Mithali Raj has 10,868 runs in international cricket in all three formats. This is also a world record in women’s cricket.
4. The only captain of India to play two ODI World Cup finals
Under the captaincy of Mithali, the women’s team reached the finals of the 2005 and 2017 ODI World Cups. The Indian team could not win the title on both occasions, but Mithali became the only Indian captain to have played two ODI World Cup finals as a captain. This record is not recorded in the name of any Indian captain in men’s cricket.
5. First Indian to score 2,000 runs in T20 Internationals
Mithali Raj became the first Indian batsman to score 2,000 runs in T20 International (men’s and women’s combined). He has 2,364 runs in this format. Mithali is still the highest run-scorer for India in T20 Internationals.
