Michael Hussey hopes that a traditional opener will replace David Warner in the Test: – To avoid fielding a makeshift opener in place of David Warner, former Australia batsman Michael Hussey has advised selectors to reward specialist openers who have dominated Sheffield Shield cricket. However, Hussey did not name any candidate.
Hussey was inducted into the Australian Cricket Hall of Fame along with former Australia women’s captain Lynn Larsson and was speaking before the Boxing Day Test at the MCG.
Before making his Test debut at the age of thirty, Hussey made his name in first-class cricket as an opening batsman and scored 15,313 first-class runs, mainly for Western Australia and Northampton shire.
He started his Test career as an opening batsman and scored a century in his second Test match batting as a replacement for the injured Justin Langer in 2005.
Michael Hussey hopes that a traditional opener will replace David Warner in the Test
Former Australian middle-order batsman Michael Hussey believes that it will be difficult for Mitchell Marsh to displace David Warner at the top of the Test order.
The West Australian believes that Warner should be replaced by a traditional opening batsman.
Cricket Australia is already looking for candidates, as Warner is expected to announce his retirement from Test cricket after the current series against Pakistan.
Although Mitch Marsh was a contender, he said it “made no sense” for him to accept the position.

A traditional opener will replace David Warner in the Test
Hussey told reporters on Tuesday that Warner should be replaced by an experienced batsman as opening the innings is a special role. According to the 48-year-old, Marsh needs to remain in the middle order.
ESPN Cricinfo quoted him as saying this.
“Opening is one of the hardest things to do in the game. So for me, if I was selected, I would go for a traditional, proper opener. Someone who has done it for a long time. I Not saying you can’t do it, and maybe someone will evolve to play that role.
“But I think it will be difficult for a player like Mitch Marsh or someone else – I know there are discussions about moving him up the order. I think he’ll probably be in the middle order, like Travis Head said, “It makes more sense to stay. I think it would be best for the balance of the Australian team.”
Marcus Harris, Matt Renshaw, and Cameron Bancroft are the frontrunners to open the innings. Harris recently performed brilliantly in the practice match against Pakistan, but Bancroft and Renshaw have scored a lot of runs in first-class cricket.
Michael Hussey Selectors have a tough job
To give more importance to the Sheffield Shield competition, Michael Hussey also hopes that the selectors will give a chance to those players who are dominating the league.
He said:
“I like who is dominating at the lower level, who have been dominating in Sheffield Shield cricket for a while now, and to be honest, they are all at different stages. So it’s a tough task for the selectors Yes. I stand by it.” I want to be here and say it should be this guy or it should be this guy.
I hope they reward someone who has done very well in Sheffield Shield cricket. I think it sends a good message to the competition.”
Warner, on the other hand, will retire this month with over 8000 Test runs and 26 centuries, the most recent of which came in the opening Test against Pakistan.
Australia posted a mammoth total of 360 runs in the first innings thanks to the 37-year-old, who scored 164 runs off 211 balls.
