The penultimate match in the cooperative period of WPL 2023 will see the Regal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) play the Mumbai Indians (MI).
RCB is out of contention to make the playoffs. However, the game is very important to MI, who are in second place and will want to win to move closer to winning the league and going directly to the final.
However, over the past few days, the paths taken by the two teams have diverged.
Mumbai has lost two games in a row, most recently a nine-wicket defeat to the Delhi Capitals (DC), whereas Bangalore has won two games in a row.
As the last day of the cooperative stage calls, there remains a lot to play for. In this section, we examine three records that could be broken when RCB takes on MI in Match 19 of the WPL 2023:
#1 Ellyse Perry can be the sixth batter in women’s T20 franchise cricket with 40 or more runs scored
RCB’s star all-rounder Ellyse Perry has had a successful season, scoring consistent runs while also establishing her presence with the bat. When the Challengers play MI on Tuesday, the Australian legend will have the chance to add another notable accomplishment to her resume.
Perry, who has scored 224 runs so far in the WPL 2023, may become the sixth batter in women’s franchise T20 cricket history to score 40 runs or more. If she reaches 50 against MI, she will join fellow Australian Elyse Villani.
Perry has so far scored two centuries and 37 half-centuries in franchise T20 cricket. Only Beth Mooney and Alyssa Healy, in addition to Villani and her, can boast of more such knocks among Australians.
#2 Amelia Kerr is 84 runs away from 3,000 runs in franchise T20 cricket
Despite her impressive performance in the opening match of the WPL 2023, Amelia Kerr has not quite lit up the stage with the bat for MI. She will want to get into the groove before the knockouts, which is partly due to the lack of opportunities.
Kerr will reach the franchise T20 cricket milestone of 3000 runs with a score of 84. When you add up her 236 wickets, you have an outstanding all-rounder in the sport.
She will join Suzie Bates, Sophie Devine, Amy Satterthwaite, and Rachel Priest as the fifth New Zealander to accomplish this feat in women’s franchise T20 cricket.
#3 Amelia Kerr is one wicket away from tying the franchise T20 cricket record for most bowled wickets
Kerr has a chance to do the same with the ball. She and England’s Sophie Ecclestone are tied for second place in this category in women’s franchise T20 cricket with 69 instances of bowling batters through their defenses.
Kerr could become the single record holder with only one “bowled” loss when MI plays RCB in their WPL 2023 match on Tuesday. This list is led by Marizanne Kapp, who has bowled out 80 batters in franchise T20 cricket.
