MI On Tuesday, January 16, Cape Town will play Sunrisers Eastern Cape at Newlands in Cape Town in a SA20 encounter.
MI Cape Town rebounded from an 11-run setback to Durban’s Super Giants with a win against Joburg Super Kings in their previous encounter.
Rassie van der Dussen wowed the crowd with a stunning century, striking 104 off 50 balls.
Ryan Rickelton, who played a fantastic 98-run knock, also made a huge impact.
The bowling combo of George Linde and Oliver Stone was instrumental, both taking two wickets.
Sunrisers Eastern Cape, on the other hand, are coming off a 35-run loss to Super Giants.
The Giants set a tough goal of 225 runs, with Sunrisers’ Daniel Worrall taking two wickets.
Except for half-centuries from Tom Abell (65) and Tristan Stubbs (55), only Aiden Markram scored a good total of 29, while the rest of the batting order struggled, culminating in a total of 190/9.
Let’s take a look at the combined SA20 2024 playing 11 that includes players from both MI Cape Town and SunRisers Eastern Cape:
Jordan Hermann, Rassie van der Dussen, and Dewald Brevis are in first place
Rassie van der Dussen is one of South Africa’s brightest players, having already struck a thrilling century in the competition.
He will be expected to give his team another strong start and lay the groundwork for Dewald Brewis, who can light the stage on fire.
Jordan Hermann is another promising young South African talent who enters the SA20 following a successful domestic season.
He has 435 runs in the CSA 4-Day series with an excellent average of 54.37.
Aiden Markram (c), Tristan Stubbs, and Liam Livingstone make up the middle order
Aiden Markram will skipper both the South Africa national T20I team and the Sunrisers Eastern Cape.
He was named player of the tournament in SA20 2023 and performed admirably in the second Test against India on a difficult wicket in Cape Town.
Tristan Stubbs demonstrated his form in the last encounter against the Durban Super Giants, scoring 55 off 26 deliveries.
In this match, he will once again be the major hitter for his team.
Liam Livingstone is one of the most dangerous middle-order batsmen in T20 cricket. In this encounter, he will be the powerhouse for MI Cape Town.
Sam Curran and Marco Jansen are both all-rounders
Sam Curran had a poor World Cup, and his stock has dropped recently.
He will be a vital performer for his side and will need to have a solid season in SA20 ahead of the IPL season.
If the circumstances allow, he may be elevated up the order, and he will be crucial with the new ball as well.
Marco Jansen has swiftly established himself as one of South Africa’s most reliable all-rounders.
His most impressive T20 batting effort to date came in the SA20, when he hit 66 against MI Cape Town, taking on Rashid Khan.
He will strengthen the lower order, and his ability to pick up wickets with the new ball will be useful.
Kagiso Rabada, Beuran Hendricks, and Simon Harmer are the bowlers
Kagiso Rabada was sensational in the Test series against India and will head the MI Cape Town bowling attack in SA20.
He frequently bowled as a first-change bowler in the World Cup, and this may be his position in this match.
Beuran Hendricks had a strong recovery against India in the T20I series, and he has plenty of experience in these circumstances to make the new ball matter.
He also possesses some variety and has the potential to be an excellent death-overs bowler.
Simon Harmer is a deft off-spinner, and on a track that may potentially help spinners, Harmer can come into his own even in SA20.
He’s also skilled with the bat.
