Maxwell Footballer International Career
With the Brazil Under-23 team, Maxwell received a cap for the 2004 Conmebol Pre-Olympic Tournament in January 2004.
He was given his first senior squad call-up in October 2004 for the 2006 World Cup qualifying matches, but he did not play.
In a 1-0 friendly loss to Switzerland in Basel on August 14, 2013, Maxwell received his first full senior international cap.
Maxwell was a member of Luiz Felipe Scolari’s 23-man Brazil team on May 7, 2014, for the World Cup that was hosted on Brazilian land. In the third-place play-off in Brasilia, where Brazil lost to the Netherlands 3-0, he made his sole appearance of the tournament and started at left-back. He played the entire 90 minutes in his final international game.
