Matildas defender extends contract with cLyonnais
Matildas defender extends contract with Olympique Lyonnais. Matildas defender Ellie Carpenter has extended her contract with the Olympique Lyonnais until 2022. Carpenter, who originally joined Lyon in 2020, is a two-time Champions League winner and has four titles to her name – 2019 Champions League, 2019 French Cup, 2018-2019 Super League and 2018-2019 Division 1 Féminine. Let’s see more about this!
Olympique Lyonnais has extended the contract of Matildas defender Ellie Carpenter, who originally joined in 2020. She is two-time Champions League winner and has won four titles with Olympique Lyonnais at the age of 22.
Ellie is a defender from New South Wales who played for the Western Sydney Wanderers and Canberra United. She started playing football when she was just 15, and made her debut in the league soon after.
Ellie Carpenter joined the Portland Thorn’s in 2018. In her first season with the club, she scored a goal as they finished second in regular season and later lost to the North Carolina Courage team in the finals. She also signed on loan for Melbourne City for the 2019/2020 W-League season.
Tara Andrews is a 22-year old defender representing Australia. She has won 57 caps with the Matildas and has scored 2 goals during the 2022 AFC Women’s Asian Cup.
In 2022, Wendie Renard sustained an injury during the UEFA Women’s Champions League final against Barcelona. Lyon, who led 1-0 at the time, subbed her off in the 14th minute, and renewed her contract for another 6 years.
It’s great to see Olympique Lyonnais continuing to invest in the future of women’s football by extending Ellie Carpenter’s contract. She is a talented young player who has already accomplished a lot in her career, and I’m sure she will only continue to get better in the years to come. With two-time Champions League winner Wendie Renard leading the way, I believe Lyon are well positioned to remain one of the top teams in Europe for many years to come.
