Mathew Hayden’s take on Cameron Green! Calls him “Gold Dust.”
Mathew Hayden’s take on Cameron Green! Calls him “Gold Dust.” Matthew Hayden, a former Australia opener, has said that all-rounder Cameron Green is “gold dust.” He also said that Cricket Australia shouldn’t stand in his way if he gets a hefty contract with the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Green, who is 23 years old, made a big impression in the three-match T20I series against India that just ended. He scored two half-centuries, which put pressure on Cricket Australia to include him in the 15-person T20 World Cup squad that will play at home next month.
In fact, Green’s selection for the three-game T20I series in India has been a blessing for the young all-rounder. Australia T20 captain Aaron Finch told Green to be patient and wait for his chance.
Green and IPL
Hayden thought that even though Green hasn’t been chosen to play in the IPL yet, he has an excellent chance of getting a lucrative contract in the tournament’s rumored mini-auction in December.
“He hasn’t been picked up in the IPL but I’ll tell you what, bowling all-rounders, they are gold dust. Gold dust,” Hayden said.
Hayden, who led attacks for years at the top of the order in all types of cricket, slammed the idea. He said players needed to develop in different situations and that it would hurt Australian cricket if Green couldn’t play.
“Well it’s nonsense if that’s the case because you’ve got to learn how to play the game,” he said.
“Especially if you can play like this, bang straight out of the middle,” he added.
The famous player also told Cricket Australia not to get in the way if an IPL team offered Green a multimillion-dollar contract.
Rumors or reality
Sunil Gavaskar asked Hayden about rumors that Cricket Australia didn’t want Green to play in the IPL because they were afraid the all-rounder would get affected. Hayden said, “Well, there’s the auction in a couple of months from now,” Gavaskar said. He further added, “Apparently, and maybe Haydos (Hayden) you can tell me (otherwise), Cricket Australia didn’t want him to (play) because he had a few injuries, they didn’t want him for the IPL and that’s why they didn’t give him the certificate diagnosis.”
Players need to learn…
Hayden said that players need to learn how to play in different situations. He also said that it would hurt Australian cricket if Green couldn’t play in the IPL or other lucrative leagues around the world.
“Well it’s nonsense if that’s the case because you’ve got to learn how to play the game. And you got to be playing it. You can’t play it in the nets, you play out in the middle under ground situation like this (IPL). Expose yourself to as many opportunities.”“We used to see it Sunny (Gavaskar) back in our day playing County Cricket, playing a volume of cricket to get the muscle memory to learn how to play in situations and different conditions,” added Hayden.
