The BBC reported on Saturday that Manchester United and Eredivisie champions Ajax Amsterdam had agreed to terms for the Argentine central defender Lisandro Martinez to join the club for 45 million pounds ($53 million). Check out complete details about it below.
Martinez has officially joined Manchester United
According to the report, Martinez has gone to Manchester to get a medical before his official transfer.
The 24-year-old, who can also play in midfield, would be manager Erik ten Hag’s third acquisition after the acquisitions of Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen and Dutch left defender Tyrell Malacia.
He played a significant role in Ajax’s success last season, making 36 games across all competitions and assisting them in winning the league and the Dutch Cup.
After Martinez relocated to the Netherlands from Argentine club Defensa y Justicia in the May 2019, Ten Hag oversaw Martinez for three seasons at Ajax. Martinez appeared 118 times in all for the Dutch team.
He would strengthen United’s defence, which allowed 57 goals last season, the most among the top six teams. He was capped seven times by Argentina.
After the exits of Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic, he might potentially provide the management with an additional midfield alternative.
United, who are presently on a preseason tour of Australia, finished sixth the previous year. On August 7, they host Brighton & Hove Albion to kick off the new season.
Prior to beginning his journey at Defensa y Justicia in 2017, Martinez spent time at Newell’s Old Boys. He became part of Ajex in 2019 .
Martnez made his professional international debut in the March 2019 following playing Argentina.
