Prior to the 5th Ashes Test at the Oval, Australian top-order batter Marnus Labuschagne made a few adjustments to the weight of his bat using equipment from the groundstaff shed. Australia has successfully retained the urn and is currently leading the series 2-1 going into the final game.
The fourth Test was mostly controlled by England, who were poised to tie the series and maintain their chances of winning the trophy. But the fifth day of the Test in Manchester was rained off, spoiling the fun for them. On day four, Marnus Labuschagne scored a valiant century and, along with Mitchell Marsh, saved Australia from certain doom.
Labuschagne, according to him, worked on his bat to ensure it had the ideal weight before the final game of the series.

Prior to the 5th Ashes 2023 Test, Ricky Ponting said, “It’s being talked about like the 2005 series”
In contrast to Ben Stokes, the English captain, former Australian captain Ricky Ponting believed that when a team loses a series 3-1, people would talk about the outcomes. He continued by saying that a losing effort might prevent particular performances from drawing much attention.
Ponting remarked in response to the ICC Review:
“With one Test match remaining, if Australia wins and defeats England 3-1. I’m sure more people will be speaking about that result than some of the individual performances from England. “They probably will be spoken about, but I mean, even if they don’t win,” said Ponting.”
He went on:
Today, July 27, at the Oval, the fifth Ashes 2023 Test between England and Australia will begin.
