It is revealed by Manchester United the signing of Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount in an initial £55m deal.
Mount has signed a five-year contract with the option of a further year after undergoing a medical in Carrington on Monday. Last week, United struck a deal with Chelsea that could see them pay a £5m add-on.
Does Mason Mount is Ten Hag strength?
Though United had turned down three offers for Mount before reaching an agreement with the Blues, and it is understood that the addition is highly contingent on the club’s future success and winning the trophy.
Erik Ten Hag is looking to strengthen his midfield by adding a dynamic young player this summer and has made Mount his top priority, with the 24-year-old out of contract at Stamford Bridge in 2024.
United Director of Football John Murtough believes Mount will raise the performance standards of the rest of the team with his “playing intelligence and tactical awareness” and is delighted to have found a player the club has long admired.
Murtough said: “Mason is an extremely intelligent footballer with many excellent technical qualities that will make a valuable contribution to our team. We have admired his talent for a long time, so we are delighted that he has decided to take the next step.” He also revealed that Mount’s style of play and attributes fit perfectly with this team, and they all believe he will continue to improve working with Hag and his coaching staff.
“We are thrilled by his strong desire to join United and his thirst for the most success.” Particularly impressed as we strive to raise the bar on our performance next season and beyond.” said by Murtough.
Other Information:
Therefore, Ten Hag was impressed with Mount when the 18-year-old spent a season on loan at Vitesse Arnhem in the Eredivisie in 2017/18 and considered trying to sign him on loan from Ajax for the following season, just for the Chelsea academy graduate. He did go to the derby.
Mount left Chelsea after scoring 33 goals in 195 appearances, but talks over a new contract broke down last season during Todd Boehly’s £600m recruitment drive, which ended with the Blues finishing 12th in the Premier League. The midfielder has also scored five goals in 36 appearances for England.
Mount became United’s first signing of the summer, and attention will now turn to Ten Hag’s efforts to add a goalkeeper and striker to the squad, although the sale will be necessary to increase the budget, which will only cost £120 per beginning of the year summer window that was about a million.
