Manchester United’s desires to sign Bologna player Joshua Zirkzee were shattered when the club’s director confirmed that the attacker would not be transferred. The Red Devils have set their sights on the Netherlands Under-21 international, who has been performing brilliantly.
Zirkzee has been a key player for Bologna this season, and his efforts have not been ignored. As the start of the January transfer window approaches, there has been speculation of a move to one of Europe’s biggest teams.
Manchester United has been given a setback as a transfer target
Manchester United are looking for a new striker to compete with and complement summer addition Rasmus Hojlund in their frontline. In recent weeks, they have been connected with various strikers. Zirkzee is one of the most recently added to their shortlist.
Bologna director Marco di Vaio stated that the 22-year-old is expected to stay at the club after the January transfer window.
The contract of Joshua Zirkzee with Bologna has a €40 million buyout option. As well as a 50% sell-on option to his previous club Bayern Munich. If the German club wishes to re-sign the striker, his contract includes a buy-back provision.
Zirkzee has seven goals and two assists in 17 Serie A appearances this season. As a consequence of his success in Italy, the Netherlands U-21 international will be hesitant to make a mid-season swap.
Manchester United desperately needs transfers.
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has frequently stated that his club does not require any new players. However, considering injuries and the form of some of their players, they might probably benefit from certain acquisitions.
The Red Devils will try to add fresh forwards, particularly on the right side and in the center of the field. Mirror reports that they have been connected with Stuttgart hotshot Serhou Guirassy as well as PSV Eindhoven prodigy Johan Bakayoko.
