Manchester United confirm £56.7m signing of Lisandro on five-year contract
A five-year contract has been signed by the 24-year-old in Manchester, with a further 12-month extension option that would keep him working there into the age of 30.
Martinez remarked that playing for such a prestigious football team was an honor. He said he put in a lot of effort to get here, and now that he is here, he going to work even harder.
Christian Eriksen, a fellow newcomer who completed a free move earlier this month after his contract with Brentford ended, arrived at United’s Carrington training facility on Tuesday with Martinez.
Although they gave up on their pursuit, Arsenal was also interested in the Argentina international. Martinez made the decision to transfer to Old Trafford despite being drawn to the Gunners’ playing style and the possibility of playing for Mikel Arteta.
Martinez’s old teams, Newell’s Old Boys and Defensa y Justicia, both of which are based in Argentina, will receive a combined €2 million (£1.7 million) of his transfer price as part of the customary solidarity payments associated with overseas moves.
The new player, Lisandro, is a standout who will add more talent and experience to Erik’s squad, according to United’s football director John Murtough.
