Malik monk to sign 2-year deal
Malik monk to sign 2-year deal. According to a report from Thursday’s edition of The Athletic, the Kings and free-agent guard Malik Monk have reached a two-year, $19 million pact. After spending four years with the Charlotte Hornets, Monk, at age 24, spent his debut season with the Los Angeles Lakers averaging 13.8 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 2.9 assists.
In a season where the Lakers’ championship hopes were dashed and they missed out on even making the Play-In Tournament, Monk was one of the few bright spots.
Sacramento’s point guard, De’Aaron Fox, is entering the second year of a max contract extension, and he decided to sign with the Kings to play alongside his college buddy. After declining to take Donte DiVincenzo a qualifying offer, the Kings needed to bolster their shooting guard depth.
Interview
The Lakers’ financial resources were restricted. He acknowledged this in an exclusive interview with Jovan Buha of The Athletic, which was published in early June. “They might not be able to pay or reimburse me as much as I’d like,” he said. But compared to any other team (that would pay) $5 million more, I could be here and feel much more at home with the Lakers. So, I’m here by myself, trying to figure out which squad would appreciate me the most.”
