Ludhiana | Punjab Khed Mela: ₹ 2 lakh allocated for each block to fund-starved local sports dept: A day before the beginning of block-level games as part of the eagerly anticipated “Punjab Khed Mela,” the director of sports for the province of Punjab on Wednesday allotted 2 lakh rupees for each of the 14 blocks to the local sports department, which had been struggling financially to organize the event.
Along with cash for tents, sound systems, photography, banners, furniture, labor, water, etc., the director’s office authorized 40 for the diet of each participant in the state in a letter that was sent to all of the district sports officials in the state.
It has been instructed that the total expense for all of the games at the block level should not exceed 70,000 yen and that this amount does not include the cost of food. In addition, the state sports department has allotted a spending limit of 2 lakh rupees per block for food expenses. The state’s several district sports departments each received a 1 lakh advance, which was placed into their respective department accounts.
After receiving a large number of complaints from the local sports department, which expressed an inability to efficiently run the games due to a lack of funding, the director of sports finally agreed to release the cash.
According to various sources, the matter was brought up during a meeting with the director of sports on Tuesday. Following the submission of a few written requests with the sports department over the same matter, the funds were eventually released on Wednesday. This was after the DSOs had made the written requests.
Statement
“At first, all of the coaches in this area were on edge since they had been required to dig deep into their pockets in order to pay off their expenses following the tournaments. “Now that the money has been delivered to the coaches, there is a collective sigh of relief coming from the coaching staff,” an experienced coach stated.
15,000 people are expected to participate in the block-level games.
In Ludhiana, there will be several different kinds of block-level games, and approximately 15,000 people will compete in them.
Competitions
The deadline for enrolling for participation in the six block-level games was August 30, but sports fans can still sign up for the district-level competitions.
Six different competitions, including volleyball, athletics, football, Kabaddi, kho-kho, and tug of war, are slated to take place at the block-level games, which are set to take place between September 1 and September 7. While there will be a total of 22 games at the district level, there will only be one champion.
A senior sports officer has been quoted as saying that “participants will be required to register directly for district-level sports which have not been included in the block-level games schedule.” On the other hand, for the sports that are included, the winners will be qualified for the district-level competitions, which are scheduled to take place between September 12 and September 22.
Games
The events at the state level that are going to take place from October 10 through October 21 will involve a total of 28 different games.
Over five lakh enthusiastic fans of various sports are anticipated to take part in the competition that will last for two months, according to the government of Punjab.
In the meantime, sources within the department have highlighted that due to a lackluster response from the participants here, the local sports department had to make a concerted effort to encourage the greatest number of school pupils to take part in the event.
In addition, because there was a scarcity of manpower, the DSO requested that the education department send their physical education instructors to work alongside the coaches from the sports department to direct the block-level competitions.
