Liverpool news: John Henry approves transfer; Mohamed Salah faces a fight for Golden Boot, Merriment prevailed at Anfield on Saturday. Liverpool picked up their first Premier League win of the season playing against Bournemouth.
The Reds displayed a record-equalling 9-0 victory against the Cherries. The Reds played to get their title bid up and running. Jurgen Klopp was proud of his players. But there is a chance he could add to his squad before Thursday’s deadline.
Transfer stories are expected to dominate the footballing agenda. There are other things taking place on Merseyside. The most noticeable is Liverpool’s game against Newcastle on Wednesday.
Henry approves transfer
Reds owner John Henry approved the signing of a new central midfielder on Saturday. The Reds had a huge win against Bournemouth.
Henry turned to the fan and hinted that he agrees with his assessment. Henry was the only one acknowledging the fan and other supporters on the ground. But it suggests Liverpool’s summer transfer business might have something else to roll on.
Klopp has a belief that Liverpool needs a new central midfielder. Speaking before Saturday’s game, he said: “I know we have had this discussion since it all started and I am the one who said we don’t need a midfielder and you were all right and I was wrong.”
“That is the situation. There is really nothing more to say about it. We are looking for it, and if it is the right player we need him and if it is not the right player we do not need him… I do not know [if it will happen before Thursday’s deadline], we will see. It needs to be the right player, but we are working, and we will see if something will happen or not.”
Salah’s Golden Boot defense
Players always insist that they do not care about personal honors. For them, personal honors are not that important. But it is evident how much they care. That stands particularly true when it comes to the Premier League’s Golden Boot. The Golden Boot was shared by Mohamed Salah and Son Heung-min last season.
This season, Erling Haaland is leading in the race of Golden Boots with six goals in just four games. These goals included a hat-trick in Manchester City’s win against Crystal Palace on Saturday. Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrovic, Leeds’ Rodrigo, and Tottenham’s Harry Kane, all scored four goals each.
Bobby Clark made his Premier League debut playing for Liverpool on Saturday at an age of just 17. “No feeling quite like this one making my Premier League debut in front of the best fans in the world at Anfield,” tweeted the Englishman afterward. “Dreams do come true.”
Talking about Clark’s progress in his game last week, Klopp said: “I am really, really happy with the boys Stefan [Bajcetic, who also made his debut on Saturday] and Bobby. I am not sure they would be that close to the first team already at 17 years old if we would have them all [the whole squad] available, and then now they make real steps.”
Clark has not been the first member of his family to play in the Premier League. That honor also belongs to his father, Lee. Lee used to play for Newcastle, Fulham, and Sunderland in England’s top flight. The ex-midfielder was a manager. He enjoyed spells at Huddersfield, Birmingham City, Blackpool, and Kilmarnock.
Clark has not been the only Liverpool academy star with a famous dad. He and four other members of the youth playing line are the offspring of former professional footballers – including a cult hero at Anfield.
