Liverpool defeated Aston Villa 3-1 in the Premier League on Monday
At Villa Park, goals from Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah were scored before Stefan Bajcetic scored toward the conclusion of the second half. Juergen Klopp’s team is still in sixth place, and Liverpool’s third consecutive win placed the club five points away from the Champions League berths.
Against mid-table Villa, who put up a fight but wasted opportunities and lacked quality when it counted most, Liverpool rode its luck.
Tyrone Mings collided with Robin Olsen, the goalkeeper for Villa, after Darwin Nunez of Liverpool mishandled Andy Robertson’s cross, necessitating medical attention for the defender. The interruption may have disturbed Villa, but it was ineffective because the visitors seized the lead when play restarted after five minutes.
Trent Alexander-Arnold, who was standing 40 yards away, intercepted Robertson’s corner and curved a beautiful pass to Robertson, who dribbled past John McGinn and curled a lovely ball for Salah, who was unable to miss.
Olsen’s low attempt was turned wide as Nunez’s mobility was giving Villa major problems. Olsen didn’t seem convincing filling in for World Cup winner Emi Martinez.
In the 37th minute, the hosts failed to clear a corner, and Salah set up Van Dijk to score with a little deflection off of Ezri Konsa.
Nunez had an opportunity to add a third goal before halftime by directing at Olsen from close range, but the Reds had the ideal second-half foundation thanks to a two-goal lead.
After 59 minutes, Ollie Watkins scored by nodding in a cross from Douglas Luiz.
When Bajcetic scored his first senior goal for Liverpool with nine minutes remaining, Liverpool lessened the blow to Villa and ultimately put an end to its dreams. After Nunez’s cross, he circled Olsen and squeaked a shot through Mings’ legs.
