Liverpool considering signing Memphis Depay and Roberto Firmino swap deal
Liverpool considering signing Memphis Depay and Roberto Firmino swap deal: Performance of Memphis Depay, Liverpool’s interest in him, and where in higher potential than their supposed transfer target Roberto Firmino.
Liverpool made a major signing in the past transfer window by spending €75 million to acquire the services of center-forward Darwin Nunez from Benfica.
However, Liverpool’s Uruguayan international has had a slow start since arriving at Anfield. He has not contributed a goal to the team since March 2nd when he scored and assisted each a goal in the Reds’ 2-2 draw against Fulham.
Firmino’s five Premier League contributions include three goals and a number of assists. He has failed to make an impact on the scoresheet in five other games, though, which is one of the reasons his club decided he was no longer good enough for their starting eleven.
Diogo Jota is a midfielder who has just played over 100 minutes across all competitions this season, he’s been away from football since the injury he suffered with Sporting in January. Mohamed Salah has scored and assisted two goals, but there’s been struggles for form for all in his debut season for Liverpool.
Liverpool, who sit eighth in the Premier League after the first six matches of the season, have found several issues with their attacking player this season. They may be forced to look for a new striker in January.
According to the Liverpool Echo, LFC is interested in signing Depay from Barcelona for a fee of £40 million. With the player requesting a transfer, Sergej Firmino would be expected to join without any payment either way.
With the negotiations with Liverpool, it is said that talks will take place and move closer to January. The discussion of André Gomes and Memphis Depay swapping clubs is on paper so far but may gather pace before then.
It is worth noting that Liverpool’s Brazilian attacker Roberto Firmino and PSG’s French winger Angel Di Maria could be on the move. Barcelona and other interested parties might be reluctant to let them go for free in the winter transfer window, meaning a swap deal might be a possibility.
The transfer market saw two major additions by Barcelona this summer, with Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski signing in. This saw Depay fall further down the pecking order.
The Netherlands international wearing number 10 was heavily linked with a move away from Camp Nou in the recently-concluded window, but eventually decided to stay put.
Barcelona has seen very limited playing time for Depay this season. He’s played just 131 minutes in all competitions, scoring only one goal in the process.
