List of World Series Winners : The World Series is the championship series of Major League Baseball (MLB), and it happens every year at the end of the MLB playoffs. The World Series championship has been played since 1903. It is a best-of-seven playoff between the National League (NL) and American League (AL) champions (AL).
World Series til 2021
As of 2021, there have been 117 World Series. The AL champion has won 66 of them, while the NL champion has won 51. The New York Yankees of the American League (AL) have been to 40 World Series and won 27 of them. This makes them the team in the major North American professional sports leagues with the most championship appearances and the most championship wins. The NL’s Dodgers have lost the most games, with 14 losses. The AL’s Yankees have lost the most games, with 13 losses. The St. Louis Cardinals have won 11 championships, the most of any NL team and the second-most of any team in history, behind only the Yankees. They have also made 19 total appearances in the World Series, which is the third-most of any NL team. The Atlanta Braves have won the World Series for the year 2021.
