The facts about champions and championship
The original winner of 1904 was Mauricio Garin, but he was caught by a train for a race that disqualified him.
In 1996, the original winner Bjarne Riis was admitted to doping use, so he was exempted from the tournament.
From 1999-2005, the tournament was held but the champion of these years, Lance Armstrong, was later caught doping.
In 2010 and 2012, Albert Cantador was an initial winner but due to a drug investigation, he was stripped of the winning position.
In 2006, Floyd Landis, the initial winner, was stripped due to a failed drug test.
