List of India women Test cricketers and captains: Test cricket is the game’s longest format. The women’s version of the game consists of four innings played over four days with eleven players on each side. In 1934, England and Australia played the first women’s Test match. However, India did not play Test cricket until the Women’s Cricket Association of India was established in 1973. The Indian women’s squad played their maiden Test against the West Indies in 1976. As part of the International Cricket Council’s aim to enhance women’s cricket, the Women’s Cricket Association of India amalgamated with the Board of Control for Cricket in India in 2006.
India has played 37 Tests, beginning with their first in 1976 and ending with their most recent in 2021. They won their first Test against the West Indies in Patna (1976), in front of almost 25,000 people, but did not win again until 2002, when they defeated South Africa. The squad has not lost a Test match since 2006, a run of three years.
Diana Edulji and Sudha Shah, two Indian players, have played in more than 20 Test matches. 10 other players have participated in ten or more Tests. Sandhya Agarwal is India’s all-time best run scorer and ranks sixth among all players worldwide.
She has the fourth-highest average among the top ten all-time run scorers. Sandhya Agarwal and Mithali Raj set records for the most runs scored in an innings, with 190 and 214, respectively. Former captains Diana Edulji and Shubhangi Kulkarni are third and sixth in terms of career wickets, respectively, while Neetu David has the greatest bowling numbers in an innings, taking 8 wickets and giving 53 runs in England’s second innings in the 100th women’s Test.
90 women have represented India in Test cricket since its inception. This list contains all players who have appeared in at least one Test match and is listed in chronological order. Where multiple players earned their first Test cap in the same Test match, those players are listed alphabetically by last name at the time of debut. Harmanpreet Kaur is presently the captain of India’s women’s cricket squad.
