Reports state that Lionel Messi has agreed to a new agreement with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) to extend his contract until 2024. The agreement is reportedly in principle.
The icon of Argentina is celebrating his country’s victory in the FIFA World Cup, but he also appears to be celebrating something else. Le Parisien reports that Messi, 35, has agreed to extend his stay at the Parc des Princes until 2024.
With rumors of a possible return to Barcelona or a move to MLS side Inter Miami, speculation has grown about the legendary forward’s future. Messi’s current contract, which ends in the summer, has always piqued PSG’s interest in keeping him in Paris.
Recently, club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi stated to Sky Sports that he is certain that Messi will extend his contract with PSG:
“Definitely, Messi wants to stay. The national team can see that he is happy. This season, he performed exceptionally well for us; he’s scored a lot of objectives and helps the public group and the club.”
Al-Khelaifi went on to say:
“Therefore, what we all agreed to do was sit down together following the World Cup. However, we will speak after the World Cup because he and our club are both thrilled.”
In the summer of 2021, Messi signed with the Parisians after leaving Barcelona on a free transfer.
During his time at the Parc des Princes, he has made 53 appearances across all competitions, scoring 23 goals and assisting with 29. In this season’s 19 appearances in various competitions, that includes 12 goals and 14 assists.
The Argentina team that the former Blaugrana attacker played for had a tremendously successful World Cup campaign. In addition to winning the prestigious trophy, Messi also took home the Golden Ball after scoring seven goals and assisting three others in seven games.

Sergio Aguero says that PSG teammate Kylian Mbappe isn’t the best player in the world, but Lionel Messi is. Aguero has praised Messi and Mbappe after their success at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Messi completed as the Brilliant Ball victor, while Mbappe guaranteed the Brilliant Boot by scoring eight objectives and giving two aids in seven games.
Many people say that Mbappe is the best player in the world, but Aguero thinks that Messi is the best because he won the World Cup. He stated,
“What do you think of Kylian? He scored three objectives in a World Cup last and has changed over the punishment in the definitive occurrence. He has also had a fantastic World Cup.”
Added by Aguero:
“However, Leo now holds the scepter. Mbappe is the world champion and runner-up despite only being 23 years old. Certainly, he will go for more since he is an exceptionally gifted and extremely serious player.”
In the World Cup final, Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe combined to score five goals. In the subsequent penalty shootout, which La Albiceleste won 4-2 after a pulsating 3-3 draw in extra time, both players scored.
