Karol Linetty, a midfielder for Torino, was left off the 26-man Poland team that manager Czeslaw Michniewicz announced on Thursday. Qatar will host the World Cup.
Linetty will not be included in Poland’s World Cup team
Despite having 42 Poland appearances under his belt since his debut in 2014, Michniewicz was unable to include the 27-year-old midfielder in the team because of the stiff competition.
Jakub Moder, a midfielder for Brighton & Hove Albion, is absent with an injury, while Maciej Rybus, a defender for Poland who joined the Russian team Spartak Moscow in June, is another experienced player who isn’t present.
Michniewicz only chose three goalkeepers, leaving out Radoslaw Majecki of Cercle Brugge and Kamil Grabara of FC Copenhagen, contrary to rumours that he would name four.
Poland will be competing in its seventh World Cup finals after finishing last in their group in Russia four years ago.
Poland will begin their World Cup campaign against Mexico on November 22 before games against Saudi Arabia and Argentina. Poland was placed in Group C for Qatar.
