When the 2022 Liga MX Clausura season begins, it will be just as competitive as the inaugural season. Teams in Liga MX’s second round are all vying for the same thing: a spot in the top 12 of the league’s standings, with eight of those teams vying for reclassification to the postseason’s quarterfinals. Each of the 18 teams in Liga MX plays 17 games throughout the regular season, with the winner receiving three points and the loser receiving one. America had the best regular-season record (10-5-2) and the most points (35) in the previous Apertura tournament.
After the conclusion of the regular season, the Playoffs begin, marking the beginning of the final phase, or Liguilla. Only 12 teams will advance to the Liguilla round, where the bottom eight teams (ranked 5th through 8th) compete for a chance to play the top four seeds in the quarterfinals (best four records of the regular season table).
