On Wednesday, LeBron James criticized reporters for not asking him about a contentious picture of Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. A photograph from 1957 that was recently unearthed by The Washington Post shows Jones as a teenager in the crowd as a group of white boys prevent six Black students from entering Arkansas’ North Little Rock High.
The photograph was taken at a time when desegregation in American schools had begun. Jones has claimed that he was just an observer at the time of the incident and had no idea what was going on.
“I got one inquiry for you all before you folks leave. Following his Los Angeles Lakers’ victory over the Portland Trail Blazers, James addressed the media. However, you guys were quick to ask us questions about the Kyrie [Irving] situation.
The Brooklyn Nets suspended Irving after he refused to apologize and tweeted a link to an antisemitic movie. Irving has since made an apology and returned. Last month, James was asked why, in his opinion, so few NBA players had addressed Irving’s initial lack of an apology. When asked about the situation, James said that antisemitism was wrong.
Kyrie said. As a Black man, Black athlete, and someone with power and a platform, I believe that whenever we do something wrong or that people disagree with, it appears at the bottom of every tabloid and news story. Additionally, Jones’ failure to hire a Black Cowboys head coach was discussed in the Washington Post article that revealed the photo.
Following Jones’ promise to bench any Cowboy who “disrespected” the flag during the 2017 national anthem protests. James stated in October that he had stopped supporting the Cowboys. After that, Jones broke his promise and knelt down with the players before a Monday Night Football game.
James stated in October, “I had to sit out on the Cowboys, man.
“When the guys were kneeling, there were just a lot of things going on. The men wanted to exercise their right to freedom of speech peacefully. “If you do that around here, you will never play for this franchise again,” the organization said. That just didn’t seem right to me.
