LeBron James surprises the audience with a fake look at the 2023 ESPY Awards.
After breaking Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s record in February, the 38-year-old Los Angeles Lakers star took the stage to be recognized as the leading scorer in NBA history.
James began by thanking his wife, Savannah James, before opening up about his future in the NBA and pointing out how proud he was of his teenage sons. He said that he has been thinking about retiring for a few years. He said that once he couldn’t give it his all on the court, he would end up playing basketball.
What did LeBron James actually say?
Fortunately, that won’t be happening anytime soon, as LeBron has confirmed that he’ll hang in there for a while.
He said: “When the season ended, I said that I was not sure that I could continue playing.” At the time, I was wondering if I could still play without cheating.”
“Can I still give it my all in the game?” he adds. “The day I can’t give it my all in the game, my job is over,” he said before a long pause.
However, the athlete left everyone on the edge of their seats to see if he had announced his retirement. “Luckily for you, that day is not today,” he said with a smile, to which the audience applauded.
He said watching his kids play ball with their coaches and teammates “brings me back every year.” When he looks at those kids, it brings him back to where he’s playing. Those children bring him back to where he should be… But yes, there is still something in him. There’s still a lot”.
What did his wife say in response?
Therefore, the honor brought another memorable moment for James the night before his speech when his wife gave him an unforgettable introduction.
“I decided I want to tell you what I think. LeBron James is the worst mom in the world,” Savannah said before her 8-year-old daughter Zuri interrupted her, drawing laughter from the audience.
She then clarified her words: “I think my husband is the worst person to ever step on a basketball court. Nobody works too much, and nobody has done more for basketball.”
