Lakshya Sen, a shuttler who won the Arjuna Award, has reportedly been accused of lying about his age while participating at the junior level in order to enter competitions that were age-restricted. The gold medalist from the Commonwealth Games is now playing at the senior level and has emerged as a major figure in the world of badminton.
Lakshya Sen, a star in badminton, has been charged in Bengaluru with age fraud
Following a complaint from Nagaraja MG, who also owns a badminton academy in the city, Bengaluru police have filed a FIR against Lakshya and a teacher from his badminton academy.
A local court recently ordered the police to begin an inquiry into the charges against the 21-year-old who attends the Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy in Bengaluru, which is where the development has taken place.
The FIR names several people, including Lakshya, his coach Vimal Kumar, his father Dhirendra Sen, his brother Chirag, and his mother Nirmala.
Dhirendra works as a coach for the Sports Authority of India, and Chirag is a badminton player himself.
According to a story in the Indian Express, Nagaraja asserts that Vimal conspired with Lakshya’s parents to fake a birth certificate in 2010 so that he could participate in age-group tournaments where he would not have otherwise been permitted to do so.
Lakshya was officially born in 2010, although Nagaraja claims he was actually born in 1998.
Vimal has refuted knowing about the claims made in the FIR. “I’m not even familiar with the complaints the complainant has made. I play absolutely no part in this. Like any other child, Lakshya joined the academy in 2010, and I began to train him “He was cited as having said.
“I had learned that a parent was making accusations against me and the academy. But we were unaffected by it in any manner “he said
Several IPC Sections, including 420 (cheating), 468 (forgery with the intent to defraud), and 471 have been used to register the case (using as genuine a forged record).
