NBA GM Believes LA Will Eventually Sign Carmelo Anthony
NBA GM Believes LA Will Eventually Sign Carmelo Anthony, During the offseason of the 2021 basketball season, the Los Angeles Lakers and Carmelo Anthony came to an agreement on a one-year contract.
Melo’s scoring totals (13.3 per game) were a career low, but he still managed to shoot 38 percent from beyond the arc.
Anthony was able to provide the Lakers with a respectable boost off the bench, displaying some encouraging signs as a spot-up three-point shooter for a squad that was in desperate need of some offensive firepower.
This upcoming year will mark the beginning of the 21st season for the potential Hall of Famer and member of the NBA 75th anniversary team.
Veteran player
The veteran player’s presence on the Lakers roster for one additional year wouldn’t be detrimental to the team’s success, and an unnamed general manager believes he has a shot at doing so for the 2022 campaign (quotes via Sean Deveney, Heavy).
“It is clear that they have a lot of issues to resolve. However, as more things are established, they will most likely circle back around to bringing him in at some point.
It’s just that, at this point, you don’t know what might happen with Westbrook and whether or not you might need to take on players, so you see that around the league a lot—teams have 10, 11, or 12 players signed, and there’s no hurry to fill in the last spots until you see how the other stuff plays out.”
Even though Anthony is still looking for his first NBA title, the locker room presence he can provide for the Lakers can be beneficial to the team even though the roster of the Lakers, which is already getting on in years, is expected to undergo some significant changes before the start of the new season.
The possibilities of Anthony and the team reuniting appear to be strong if he is interested in making a return and is prepared to play on another low-risk contract.
