Kushal Das, the contentious All India Football Federation (AIFF) general secretary, has decided to resign on “health concerns,” completing a 12-year term tainted by claims of financial indiscretions.
Kushal Das, the AIFF’s general secretary, has resigned
Das, who’d been assigned to the highest post in 2010, has been on medical leave until June 20 on health grounds, but while many in football circles believe he has been managed to keep out of his work by the Committee of Administrators after a Comptroller and Auditor General review discovered multiple financial anomalies, which are currently under investigation.
Das submitted his resignation to the CoA, which is temporarily in charge of Indian football after the Praful Patel-led administration was removed by the Supreme Court for failing to organise elections on time.
Das’ time as AIFF General Secretary nearly parallels Patel’s President.
The CAG has demanded an examination of the AIFF’s accounts for the time that coincided with Patel’s term.
Das had previously been suspected of assault by a female AIFF employee, and the organisation came under criticism after an Internal Complaints Committee, primarily comprised of his colleagues, cleared him.
The CoA also discovered that an astrological business was compensated more than 16 lakh rupees to forecast the destiny of the senior men’s national team in the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers.
Another accusation also arose in which the name of an Ahmedabad-based football institution was often used in some dubious deals with former Indian Arrows players.
Das spent several years as the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Chief Financial Officer (CFO) prior heading to AIFF in 2010.
Despite the fact that the Indian national side advanced for three Asian Cup football tournaments during his tenure, Das has gotten a lot of criticism over the years for not being able to schedule quality foreign experience for the senior squad.
