If Kuldeep Yadav keeps taking wickets, according to Aakash Chopra’s, he will likely be India’s first-choice specialist spinner at the 2023 World Cup.
In the third ODI, which would decide the series, India destroyed the West Indies by 200 runs, with Kuldeep recording figures of 2/25 in eight overs. The 19 overs he bowled during the series, he took seven wickets with a remarkable economy rate of 3.21.
In a evaluation of the series that was posted to his YouTube account, Chopra expressed the opinion that Yuzvendra Chahal has lost ground to Kuldeep as India’s top specialist spinner. He stated:
“Kuldeep Yadav has once more strengthened his argument. He only liked the fact that he takes wickets and is actually regarded as being ahead of Yuzi (Yuzvendra) Chahal. Whenever he was given the ball, he took wickets.”
The previous Indian opening continued:
“Kuldeep Yadav will undoubtedly be the top spinner if he keeps taking wickets at this rate. All-rounders (Ravindra) Jadeja and Axar (Patel) will both be all-rounders, although Kuldeep Yadav might be the one who stays as the first spinner.”
Chahal and Kuldeep appear to be competing for the spot of specialist spinner in India’s starting XI. The right-arm leg-spinner sat out the entire series against the Windies whereas the left-arm wrist-spinner played all three One-Day Internationals.
Aakash Chopra’s on Mukesh Kumar: “I don’t think he is in the team’s scheme from a World Cup perspective”
According to Aakash Chopra, India’s Mukesh Kumar is unlikely to be considered for a place in the World Cup squad.
Mukesh Kumar scored in his last game but I don’t think he’s on this list. He does every game, he’s the star of the season, but I don’t think he’s in the squad from a World Cup perspective.
The former cricketer-turned-commentator believes India’s four frontline seamers have already been selected, noting:
“Only four fast bowlers can leave; three of them—Jasprit Bumrah, Muhammad Shami, and Mohammed Siraj—have already been discussed; the fourth is Lord (Shardul) Thakur. That ought to be the end of it.
One of the seamers in India’s team for the Asian Games is Mukesh. He is unlikely to be selected for the World Cup given that the multi-sport continental extravaganza coincides with it.
