Kuldeep Yadav is left off of Pragyan Ojha‘s list of his favorite Indian spinners for the 2024 T20 World CupWhen asked which two Indian spinners he favored, Suresh Raina named Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel.
“Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel for sure,” he remarked. Depending on how he performs in the IPL this year, I think Yuzvendra Chahal is another option. He is an entirely different kind of match-winner with the manner he delivers the ball.”
The former all-rounder for India continued by saying that Yuzvendra Chahal may be considered if he does well in the IPL in 2024. “Sanju Samson used him very well for Rajasthan,” he said. In the 2022 Indian Premier League, he was not only bowling the 17th over but also took the most wickets. In my opinion, Yuzi Chahal ought to play in the World Cup if he does well in the IPL.”
Chahal is India’s leading wicket-taker. In 80 games, he has accounted for 96 dismissals at a respectable 8.19 economy rate.
Kuldeep Yadav is left off of Pragyan Ojha’s list of his favorite Indian spinners
Pragyan Ojha has selected his top trio of spinners for India’s 2024 T20 World Cup team: Ravindra Jadeja, Ravi Bishnoi, and Axar Patel. Kuldeep Yadav is not on this roster.
Jadeja is not part of the Men in Blue team for the recent T20I series against Afghanistan. He has perhaps been granted a rest ahead of the forthcoming five Tests against England. Despite being a member of the squad, Kuldeep did not start in the first two games. Instead, the hosts used Bishnoi, Axar, and Washington Sundar as their three spinners.
Ojha was questioned about how many and what kind of spinners he would want to see in the T20 World Cup team during a talk on Colors Cineplex. In response, he said, “Three for me. No. 1 Ravindra Jadeja – he brings a lot of experience. Then, (Ravi) Bishnoi on my behalf. Considering his intelligence, Axar Patel comes in third.”
The former spinner for India commended Axar for his ability to win games with the bat and the ball, saying: “He is a match-winner because of the way he bats and bowls.” He makes the match for you whether he holds the bat or the ball.”
In three of his previous four Twenty20 Internationals, including Sunday’s match against Afghanistan in Indore, Axar has been named Player of the Match. The all-rounder who bowls spin was named Player of the Match in the past two Twenty20 Internationals against Australia. But he was not selected for the South African trip in the shortest format. Instead, Jadeja was selected and appointed vice-captain.
