For the forthcoming two-match Test series against Team India, West Indies skipper Kraigg Brathwaite has called for consistency from his team. The 2023–25 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle will begin for both teams with the red-ball match.
West Indies won just four tests during the previous WTC cycle, placing them seventh overall. Team India presents them with a challenge because they haven’t won a Test match against them in more than 20 years.
Consistency, according to Brathwaite, is the secret to winning the forthcoming Test series.
The hosts have added a few fresh players to the lineup, mostly in the batting order. For the two-match Test series, batters Kirk McKenzie and Alick Athanaze got their first calls to the national team.
Veteran bowler Kemar Roach will be in charge of the fast bowling squad in the bowling department. The remaining members of the bowling attack include seasoned Jason Holder, Alzarri Joseph, and Shannon Gabriel, each of whom bowl quickly.
Brathwaite lauded Kemar Roach for the contribution he makes to the bowling attack.
In last three Test matches against India, Kemar Roach has taken 11 wickets, nine of which came in the 2019 series.
Kraigg Brathwaite – “Obviously, we would encounter difficulties along the road”
The West Indies’ first trip of South Africa in 2023 served as their final red-ball assignment. The Windies lost by a score of 2-0 and will be trying to get off to a good start in the 2023–25 WTC cycle.
Brathwaite said that facing a top-tier team like India will be challenging.
At Windsor Park in Dominica, India and West Indies will play their first Test match starting on July 12.
West Indies, captained by Kraigg Brathwaite, will attempt to get over the disappointment of missing out on qualifying for the ODI World Cup 2023, which will take place later this year. The West Indies will be a formidable squad at home, so Rohit Sharma and company won’t want to underestimate them.
The test team for West Indies forthcoming series against India has been revealed. Alick Athanaze and Kirk McKenzie, two uncapped all-rounders who previously had outstanding hitting form for the West Indies A squad, have been added to the roster. Rahkeem Cornwall, an all-around player, was also added to the team after an absence of over two years.
