Kohli and Rohit are back in the Indian T20I team for the Afghanistan series. After 14 months out, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are set to rejoin on the T20I pitch for India.
The national selection committee has selected both of them for the team for the next three-match series against Afghanistan.
Since India’s 2022 T20 World Cup semi-final loss to England, Rohit and Kohli have not participated in a Twenty20 international match.
Kohli and Rohit are back in the Indian T20I team for the Afghanistan series
For the first time in 14 months, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are prepared to play for India in a Twenty20 international match.
The national selection committee appointed them to the team for the three-match home series against Afghanistan beginning on January 11.
For the primary occasion after the T20 World Cup in 2022, Rohit has been asked to be the captain of the T20I team. Hardik Pandya is expected to miss the tournament due to an ankle injury.
Surprisingly, the team administration and previous selection committee had opted to part ways with the great hitting partnership after the T20 World Cup in Australia in 2022. Since then, Hardik has been captaining the squad in the shortest format.
BCCI has held many rounds of meetings with Rohit and Kohli over their white-ball future over the previous two months.
It was explained to them that accommodating both titans in the T20I lineup may be challenging. But both players have stated that they would like to play in this year’s T20 World Cup in the Caribbean and the US.
The board is dubious about Hardik’s ability to lead the team on a full-time, consistent basis due to his repeated injury setbacks.
For the Indian Premier League, Hardik is anticipated to make a comeback. He will lead the Mumbai Indians, with Rohit playing alongside him.
Insiders claim that Rohit and Kohli have been informed that they are not guaranteed a position in the T20 World Cup despite being selected.
Their destiny will be determined by how well they do in the IPL and the series they play against Afghanistan.
