India’s former wicketkeeper-batsman Kiran More believes left-handed batsman Rinku Singh has the potential to become a formidable finisher like big-hitters MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh.
However, Rinku excelled as a finisher for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in IPL 2023, with the most notable moment coming when he crushed Gujarat Titans pacemaker Yash Dayal with five sixes from the last five balls in the Ahmedabad match to seal an unlikely victory achieved.
Overall, when he was the designated finalist for KKR, Rinku scored 474 runs in 14 matches at a strike rate of 149.53 in the tournament. Batting in the last five overs of the tournament, his strike rate reached 186.66, the best for an Indian batsman in the competition.
What did Kiran More said about Rinku Singh?
In an interview, Kiran said he was waiting for Rinku’s chance in the Indian team. He added: “That batting position, No. 5 and 6, he’ll do well at that position, and he can be a great finisher. As we have known and seen, MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh. After that, we couldn’t find a player like him,”.
On Friday, Rinku made his T20I debut for India in the series opener against Ireland but could not bat due to rain, helping the visitors win by two runs via the DLS method. “It doesn’t work yet, as we all tried so much to create those players. Tilak Verma is also there; he, too, can play that role. Rinku is also a great fielder. And I have also seen him in domestic cricket; he has improved greatly,” said former chief selector More.
Other Updates!
Therefore, Kolkata Knight Riders assistant coach Abhishek Nayar, who has worked closely with Rinku for the past six years, agreed with More’s views, noting that the left-handed batsman is fit in T20I to bat at number five or six.
“Hardik Pandya comes in as a batsman, and we have known how he plays up the order; and you need someone in the lower order who can do, who can do this. You have someone like Akshar Patel for this, but Rinku is ready.” We hope the above article was helpful to you; if you have any queries, feel free to comment below.
