According to sources, the Kings and star center Domantas Sabonis have reportedly agreed on a lucrative contract renegotiation and extension.
Though Sabonis’ new contract is for five years, and he’s set to earn him a whopping $217 million over his course. Of that, $195 million is supposedly new money. Sabonis, a 27-year-old, was due to enter the final year of his contract in 2023-24 and was to earn $19.4 million. Previously he was in Sacramento under the four-year; he originally signed a deal with the Pacers in 2020 worth $74 million.
Sabonis will remain under contract with the Kings through the 2027-28 season, earning an average annual value of $43.4 million with his big stretch of money.
What is Domantas Sabonis deal worth up to?
Sabonis was acquired by the Kings from the Pacers as part of a highly successful trade involving Tyrese Halliburton during the 2021-22 season. Since then, he has become integral to Sacramento’s success, helping the team end last season’s long playoff drought.
However, as we have known, Sacramento doesn’t rue trading former player Tyrese Halliburton to the Indiana Pacers for a versatile man. Indiana found an all-star point guard that they extended to a deal worth as much as $260 million; that was a trade that benefited both teams.
The Kings, on the other hand, in 79 games in 2022-23, Sabonis averaged 19.1 points, a league-high 12.3 rebounds, and a career-high 7.3 assists per game during his third All-Star appearance. According to sources, “Domas” shot 60.4% from the field, including 35.0% from the deep part. He’s a triple-double threat and has opened up a side of the Kings’ game that they haven’t had before with his generosity and his tremendous rebounding power.
Other things!!
Sabonis has steadily improved his game over the years and has been named an NBA All-Star multiple times. He was selected as an All-Star in 2020, 2021, and 2022. In the 2020-2021 NBA season, Sabonis averaged a double-double with over 20 points and 10 rebounds per game. As of my knowledge cutoff in September 2021, Sabonis has not won any major individual awards, but he has emerged as one of the top power forwards in the NBA and is highly regarded for his contributions on the court.
Domantas Sabonis is only 27 years old and will still be entering the prime of his career. Along with De’Aaron Fox, he is expected to become the face of a franchise viewed by many as a perennial playoff contender.
