Kevin Durant Demands Nets To Fire Steve Nash Or Trade Him
Kevin Durant Demands Nets To Fire Steve Nash Or Trade Him: NBA schedules will be revealed likely in the next two weeks. But the Brooklyn Nets might face a big problem. Kevin Durant expressed already that he wasn’t happy with his team. Durant had been demanding a trade out of town.
In a meeting with Brooklyn Nets owner Joe Tsai, Kevin Durant reiterated and reinstated his trade request. Durant informed Tsai that he has to decide whether to choose between Durant or the pairing of general manager Sean Marks and coach Steve Nash.
Durant demonstrated that he does not have faith in the team’s direction, sources said.
A source close to the Nets revealed that Durant is not the only Nets star unhappy with the team’s leadership.
“Kyrie Irving hates these guys,” the source said. “He feels that Nash is terrible and Marks is bad.”
Durant and Tsai had a meeting in London and sources described the meeting as transparent and professional. The discussion took place a year after Durant agreed to a four-year, $198 million contract extension with the Nets. Durant put his initial trade request on June 30. Kevin will now enter the first season of that extension.
Durant demands from the team to fire head coach Steve Nash and general manager, Sean Marks. If the Nets deny it, then Durant’s trade demand still stands.
The Nets do have knowledge of the reasons behind Durant’s request. The Nets do understand that the 12-time All-Star is set to continue to be resolute in his stance. Durant wants a change of scenery heading into his 16th season.
After Durant’s trade request on June 30, the Nets had conversations with almost every team in the league, according to sources.
The Celtics, Toronto Raptors, and Miami Heat remain the most significant candidates who stand in line to acquire Durant, sources said. Boston’s package is centering around All-Star forward Jaylen Brown and is seen as a viable deal. Tsai and the Nets said that they want every last asset from a team that is willing to trade for Durant.
Durant is close to Boston coach Ime Udoka. He engaged with the Boston coach after Udoka spent a year with Durant as an assistant in Brooklyn. He was engaged with the Team USA for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
In a tweet Monday night, Tsai showed his support to his team’s front office and coaching staff.
“We will make decisions in the best interest of the Brooklyn Nets,” he added.
